If you get stalled in the middle of a project and need some help I do consultations for 20 dollars a half hour
Have a sensational sewing day!!!
If you need me to I can take you to JoAnn’s fabrics so you can get the things you need
This would be considered one class which you pay 50 for an hour and I suggest you 2 hour sessions.)
I am also contracted for advanced classes at Jo Ann’s fabrics in Plano for 3 hours is 85.00.
You can break up your hours for different days or do them all at once.
I have a brother. After using singer for decades I spent 30 dollars every three months replacing the bobbin case. I am now using a brother I think this would be a good starter
I hear that Janome is a good one too.
Later when you decide if sewing is for you I suggest you purchase a serger
When you receive your machine there is a video that comes with it. Watch it and get to know your machine. Read the instruction manual and anything you do not understand I will go over with you.
I would like to see a piece of fabric where you experimented with the different stitches.
Different stitches are for different things, blind hem, rolled hem, decorative stitching and your machine comes with different attachments. You should know what they are for to make your experience easier.
I prefer you do something with a zipper so I can show you how to plant one.
There are specific patterns that enhance everyone’s body type. I discuss these with you. Accentuate the positive. Take the eye away from the negative.
Fabrics and threads
If we do the in store session, I show what fabrics are best for different designs and apparel.
If you are interested in sewing interiors we go over that and the necessary hardware and linings and embellishments.
There are several different threads to choose from that are for different projects, the wrong thread can ruin your efforts
I believe that color, like scents, have a specific meaning and effect your attitude and feelings. You can put on a pastel and feel good all day just because it is what you are surrounded in, if you like muted tones or autumn colors they all have a meaning and what you surround yourself with, defines you.
Multipurpose sewing needles
Depending on what you are sewing there are different needles to sew different fabrics.
Chalk or pencil for marking fabric
You can also use a small bar of soap if your fabric is a dark color
Scissors a good sharp pair can be expensive but is worth the investment.
I also love these https://flipboard.com/…/top-20-best-electric-scissors-revie…
A good steam iron and board
Cutting board if you don’t have a large surface table that will accommodate you laying out your fabric
Graph paper and clear tape (I use this to adjust my patterns)
Pins I prefer the long pins that come with a magnet that holds them (Stepping on a needle is not fun)
Prewash your fabric
I cannot stress this enough, there is nothing more disappointing than making a garment and wearing it a couple of times only to find that the fabric shrank in the wash and it no longer fits
